Apply the heuristic to the following scenario.

You own that marvel of engineering, a Chevrolet Vega. Vegas were installed with an aluminum block engine and an in-stock radiator that did not keep the engine block as cool as the engine was designed for. Because the engine runs at higher temperatures than the specifications called for, the piston sleeves have expanded, and the engine began burning oil around 35,000 miles. At 40,000 miles, you are burning a quart of oil about every 40 miles.

You take it to your mechanic, who tells you that he can bore out the sleeves, insert new steel sleeves, and fix the problem. He only wants $1,250 for the job. As a poor college student, you don't have that kind of cash.

Using the heuristic, outline your alternatives open to you and the justification for each option.
