SFRA 2007 Conference Update
Kansas City, MO - July 5-8, 2007

As of May 23rd, fifty-nine persons have registered for SFRA 2007, our annual meeting, which is being held this year in conjunction with the Heinlein Centennial and the Campbell Conference at the Westin Crown Center Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri.

Our featured guests will be Fredrik Pohl, James Gunn, Allen Steele, Sidney Perkowitz, and Kathleen Ann Goonan.

The program will begin Thursday afternoon (July 5), and conclude with the SFRA's annual business meeting Sunday morning (July 8). There will be a plenary session with the authors on Thursday night, and the Annual Awards Presentation Ceremony on Friday evening will honor Algis Budrys, this year's Pilgrim Award recipient, Mike Levy, this year's Clareson Award winner, and Amy J. Ransom, our new Pioneer Award winner - among others. The Heinlein Centennial Gala Banquet will be held Saturday night.

The program is nearly complete, so if you haven't sent in your paper, please contact Carolyn Wendell or Philip Snyder ASAP. And don't forget to book your room now (Westin Crown Center Hotel). The Heinlein Conference rate will go away at the end of the month.

Hotel reservations for SFRA 2007

Colleagues -- You can connect to the SFRA 2007 conference hotels via the direct link to the hotel page of the Heinlein Centennial website - This will give information and direct links to the hotel web sites and reservation pages. Hotels can also be reached from any Centennial web page.

The academic tracks - SFRA 2007 sessions - will be in the Westin Hotel, so you may wish to reserve rooms there for convenience, although the Gala and other activities will be in the Hyatt. The Westin Hotel is all non-smoking and it will definitely be the "quiet" hotel.

New SFRA Review Fiction Reviews Editor

A while back I announced that Phil Snyder was stepping down from his position as Fiction Reviews Editor.

I'd like now to announce that Ed Carmien will be replacing Phil in this position, effective immediately. Ed's been a long time reviewer for the SFRA Review, and has already sent me ideas for revising editorial guidelines.

We'd like to welcome Ed aboard, and look forward to working with him. If you want to suggest a fiction title for review, or to remind Ed that you're available as a reviewer in the future, you can contact him at sfrafiction AT mac.com. His mailing address will be added to the masthead of the next issue.

Election results

I am pleased to announce to the membership that the victorious candidates in the SFRA election are:

President:  Adam Frisch
Vice President:  Lisa Yaszek
Treasurer:  Donald 'Mack' Hassler
Secretary:   Shelley Rodrigo

As election organiser may I offer my personal congratulations to the new executive but also to those who ran but did not win. An association is only as strong as those willing to lead it and we were well served by all of the candidates. It is also very pleasing that 116 ballots were cast, showing a membership concerned about the organisation and its future.

Yrs.

Peter Brigg
Past President SFRA

SFRA 2007 in Kansas City

SFRA 2007 will be held in Kansas City, Missouri, July 5-8th 2007, in conjunction with the Robert A. Heinlein Centennial. Our theme will be "Celebrating the Golden Age of Science Fiction."

Our distinguished guest author will be Fred Pohl, and our featured guest authors will be James Gunn and Allen Steele.

If you wish to present a paper or organize a panel, please contact either Carolyn Wendell (cwendell@rochester.rr.com) or Phil Snyder (psnyder@monroecc.edu) - the program co-chairs for SFRA 2007 - as soon as possible to assure yourself a place on the program. Papers on any aspect of our guest authors' life and work will be most welcome, as will papers about Robert A. Heinlein.

The conference fee will be $150 for regular members, which includes membership in the Heinlein Centennial. At present, we are not sure about the cost of the Saturday Night banquet, which will be a partial or full add-on to the conference fee. We won't have a separate SFRA banquet.

Our SFRA Awards Presentation will be held Friday evening, July 6th at 7 p.m.

If you would like to help with the conference, please contact me.
