Major Conference News: Samuel R. Delany and Paul Levinson added to SFRA 2006 lineup!

We are proud to announce that Samuel R. Delany and Paul Levinson have agreed to join us for SFRA 2006! This makes our already terrific guest list even more dazzling, if we do say so ourselves.

Samuel R. Delany will join our opening night panel that will explore our conference theme, "When Genres Collide." He has also agreed to chair a panel on "The Treatment of Lesbianism and Male Homosexuality in Science Fiction and Society." Nalo Hopkinson has agreed to join Delany on this panel, along with one or two other guests (TBA).

Paul Levinson will bring his insights on merging "Science Fiction and Ancient History" in his works. R. Garcia y Robertson will join Levinson on this panel.

Only one question remains regarding the conference, as far as we're concerned: how best to clone ourselves in order to attend everything that's scheduled to go on at any one time?

See you soon. . .
Oscar and Tom

2006 SFRA Election

These are the candidate statements from the slate selected by the Nominating Committee. Members should be aware that, by means of a petition signed by five voting members of the Association and received by the Secretary of the association by July 10, 2006, further nominations may occur. Anyone reading the bylaws will realise that, as Chair of the Elections Committee, I have arbitrarily extended the date in the regulations so that it occurs after the annual conference, the conference being an opportunity for the membership to informally meet and consider the nominations. The candidate statements offered below will also appear in the next issue of SFRAR.

Peter Brigg
Chair, Nominating Committee

SFRA Election 2006

The Nominating Committee of SFRA is charged with developing a slate of officers for the election forthcoming in Fall, 2006. We must present that slate to the Annual Meeting in June, after which time nominations may occur 'from the floor' until July 10.

This is an open appeal from the Nominations Committee, chaired by me as Past President, to members of SFRA to propose themselves or someone they would wish us to consider to stand for election. Our Association needs people willing to undertake its management. The work is not onerous, is a service to the cause of scholarship and camaderie in the study of Science Fiction and Fantasy, looks fine on one's cv. The Committee is eager to draw upon the resources of younger members of the Association in a suitable balance with more experienced members.

The offices to be filled are:
   - President (who may not succeed his/herself in office)
   - Vice-President (who may not succeed his/herself in office)
   - Treasurer
   - Secretary

Please give serious consideration to serving your Association. Please send nominations (or send questions) to pbrigg@uoguelph.ca.

Peter Brigg
Past President
