[SFRA-L] Science Fiction which features Science Fiction

Consider LIVE FREE OR DIE by John Ringo.
 
The principal character, Tyler Vernon, was the creator of a science fiction 
 based web comic.  He meets an alien at a con.  He claim that many of  his 
ideas come from science fiction.  Later in the story, he has a  discussion 
with an alien and they speculate why the alien's race never came up  with the 
concept of science fiction.
 
It makes me wonder how many other works of science fiction exist in which  
science fiction itself is a detail of the plot.  I guess it could be called  
"self-referential science fiction."
