[SFRA-L] A question for the group mind: stories of planetaryimagination?

This would be VERY recent ... I’ve just finished a novel, called _Another Think Coming_, in which a major plot idea is the main characters’ gradual realization that at least some, probably all, of the planets in this Solar System are `alive’, and they spend a fair amount of time discussing what that *means*, exactly, besides having to deal with the notion that the four largest planets are not only `alive’ but sapient. I can send Mr. Clarke the relevant files containing the text of this novel, if he wants; the novel isn’t actually published yet.

Best,
Steven

Subject: [SFRA-L] A question for the group mind: stories of planetaryimagination?

Dear Comrades:

One of my colleagues from Texas Tech is planning a class on "The Planetary Imagination" and is looking for recent story recommendations. He writes:

I'm sketching a syllabus for a junior-level literature and science class called "The Planetary Imagination." The science component will be largely Gaian science, for instance, Margulis's Symbiotic Planet and Tyler Volk's Gaia's Body. What I need is a recent work of planetary imagination, to accompany and update selections such as Solaris, Dune, and A Door into Ocean. Something with ecological zazz and not too terribly long.

If you have suggestions along these lines, please either hit "reply all" (he is not on the SFRA listserv) or reply directly to Bruce Clarke at <brunoclarke at gmail.com>.

Thanks, Lisa
