I'm quoting Hugo as cited a few steps back. To the effect that no one
can teach someone how to write, but you can teach people how not to
write. As I understood him, he was suggesting limits on the down
side. Violation of writerly decorum has been one of the great forces
in literature. It would be a shame to teach too much politeness.
