I have a couple of friends who studied with Hugo and spoke of it as a life  
changing experience. He certainly had the credentials to be hired by a  
university--advanced degree, a couple of books with good publishers, and his  
subsequent career more than justified whatever gamble they took in hiring him 
 from the business world. His book THE TRIGGERING TOWN may be the best book 
I've  read yet about writing and teaching poetry.
