I recall reading Graves' Oxford lectures and enjoying them very much. One of his major divisions was between the Apollian and Muse (Dionysian)?poetry. Which was related to?the Classical and Romantic modes, and the modern notion of Cooked and Raw perhaps, etc.?He did a good job laying out examples throughout the tradition with insight and free-wheeling erudition. I will post a quote or two from the lectures when I find it.

... the argument between the Oxford University Professorship of Poetry and the UK laureateship is (as Sam Johnson or was it Swift noted?) the argument between a flea and a louse ...?
?
Mind you, the Oxford Lectures have produced at least *some interesting things -- Housman's lectures, Graves, and Peter Levi's _The Sound Made By Poems_.?
?
? ... and I am sure there are others.?
?
As for the UK laureateship, jeezuz, jimmy, geeuz a break ...?
