I used to think of his poems as being, although well-written, curiously 
numbing. His abilities as a translator I do respect.

The article has a priceless (unintended?) pun:

> "As a poet, you're always going to have to do something else, unless 
> you have a really large-bore production like Ted Hughes or Les Murray."
