I'm so out of it that I have to ask, is 33K supposed to be low for a DIRECTOR? I should think 66 times more than poets make a year as poets would be more than reasonable.

33K is very, very low for an academic director of a program. She isn't being paid to write poetry-- she is being paid to sacrifice time she could spend writing poetry to instead direct and shape the whole program. It's a full-time and highly demanding job.
33K-- wow, I can make more than that shoveling snow. Maybe I have been out of the academic loop for a very long time, but if this really is the going rate for heads of departments, at a time when tuitions are going into the stratosphere, academia must be in very sad shape indeed.

I'd do it for ten K, and, I assure you, I could handle it. But I lack the proper credentials, and the students might end up learning something about poetry if I were allowed really to direct the program, so I don't think they'll take my offer.
