33K is very, very low for an academic director of a program. She isn't being
paid to write poetry-- she is being paid to sacrifice time she could spend
writing poetry to instead direct and shape the whole program.  It's a
full-time and highly demanding job.

33K-- wow, I can make more than that shoveling snow. Maybe I have been out
of the academic loop for a very long time, but if this really is the going
rate for heads of departments, at a time when tuitions are going into the
stratosphere,  academia must be in very sad shape indeed.
