No, I do not agree. A thing can have a use or purpose that might not yet have been discovered by humanity. I assume everything in existence has a purpose; just because I don't know what it is doesn't diminish that purpose.

I beg to differ. The appendix, for example, is completely useless and has been for several eons, and the structure of a horse's ankle not only serves no purpose, it makes the poor horse very vulnerable and likely to be injured.

I agree that things can have a use that isn't obvious (or at the very least can be put to use by an enterprising mind) but I categorically reject the idea of "intelligent design"-- i.e., that everything that exists must do so for some kind of higher purpose or plan of any kind. Nope. Just don't believe it. Frankly I think human beings are the most useless species of all-- the planet (to say nothing of the polar ice caps) would be just fine without us. I could go on.

All that said, I believe in the power of love, but I don't think it was "created" with a purpose so that we can exist and thrive. Rather I believe rather that we exist and continue to thrive largely *because* we are capable of love, and that the depth of our connection to one another has evolved as a direct consequence our continued survival. Which by the way is amazing and wonderful. We are here largely because we love. If we didn't love, we would have died out and ceased to exist long ago.

  This is complex....

  My two bits.
