"He's one of few writers I've ever known who has a balanced center of
gravity," says fellow New England poet Jay Parini, a resident of Middlebury,
Vt. "He speaks with clarity, but also with wit and subtlety. And there's not
an ounce of pretense about him, in person or in his writing."

I studied with Wilbur back when I was an undergraduate (and I still have the
elegant letters he sent me during the summer of my freshman year when I sent
him my poems and we had a brief correspondence) and I can't even begin to
say how utterly true this is. He was one of the most well-spoken,
brilliant, genuine, and down to earth people I have ever known.

Yep, nodding my head vigorously here.
