Actually, the essay is still quite relevant, and  unfortunately, Bernstein's 
sentiment hasn't been widespread enough, in any  sense of the word ... 


Bernstein could be said to have copied Richard Howard who published a very  
similar piece in Harpersa about 10 years ago. Both decry the  commercializing 
initiatives of National Poetry Month, tho Richard  Howard's piece was more 
along the veing of what I'd call 'Garboing':  "I just want to be left alone" (says 
the famous poet, feigning a need to  retreat to some secret bower where the 
true mysteries of poetry reveal  themselves).
