I'm amazed more people didn't get it. Would it surprise me in Fence?
Absolutely-- not nearly avant enough. Good lyrics? Sure, maybe even
great. Good poem? Not particularly. Lifeless without the music,
without the voice. That's the difference to me-- the poet gets the
voice and life into the words without the external forces lyrics need
to support them properly in the context of song.
