“He’s one of those very few paradigm-shifting poets. When he won the  
Pulitzer Prize in the mid-1970s, it had an enormous impact on the poetry  landscape 
in America,” Magee said last week. “People who didn’t feel like they  needed 
to pay attention to formally innovative writing previously, all of a  sudden 
felt like probably they should pay attention.”
