Welsh poet invented an 'S' in his initialsJul 5 2006
Steve Dube, Western Mail
RS THOMAS has one of the most famous sets of initials in Welsh literature,
but he only invented the "S" because he did not want to be known as Ron, it
has been revealed.
He inserted the extra letter, which stands for Stuart, when he was still a
child.
And by the time he became a student at Bangor University he became RS
full-time because of the number of Thomases bidding for a place in the university
rugby team.
The revelations come in a new book by RS Thomas's old friend Byron Rogers,
which will be published by Aurum Press on Friday.
