Instructions for using HyperNews 1.10

This page provides an overview of the HyperNews instructions for users. The forum at the bottom of this page is for discussing these instructions, not other subjects.

The home page of HyperNews is http://www.hypernews.org/HyperNews/get/hypernews.html. It lists many other known HyperNews forums and sites.

Please read this: Find the right place to post your message, which is probably NOT in this forum. The purpose of this forum (and other forums on HyperNews subjects) is to discuss the HyperNews Instructions which are contained below. Please don't write messages about anything else. Inappropriate postings will be deleted from here.
This forum often gets people confused - this is not necessarily the same site you were on previously. This is the HyperNews Instructions forum on the HyperNews home site, www.hypernews.org. You may have come to this page from another site - check your URLs. Return (using your browser Back button) to the site or forum you were at previously before adding messages about non-HyperNews subjects.
If you would like to just test some aspect of HyperNews, please don't do that here - you are welcome to do tests on the HyperNews Test Forum . There is more information About HyperNews and how to get the HyperNews Source, which references other subjects of concern to HyperNews administrators. If you have a problem with any aspect of HyperNews, check the HyperNews Bugs forum. Or email me about it (liberte@hypernews.org).
Please note that I cannot help with membership or subscription problems on other HyperNews sites; you will have to contact the appropriate administrator for the site you are having problems with. See the Members page for the email of the administrator.

The version of HyperNews running at www.hypernews.org is probably different from what you will find on other sites. Furthermore, many features of HyperNews are configurable, so these instructions are rather generic in most cases and HyperNews may behave differently on the site you are using.

Here is a quick overview of many of the HyperNews features. Click on links of messages to read them one at a time, or click on Inline "1" or "All" to read a sequence of messages all in one page. The "More" and "Next" buttons let you navigate the thread of messages within one window, while the Frames button takes you to a multi-frame view of the forum that may be easier for you to navigate. "Add Message" lets you participate in the discussion. "Subscribing" means you will be notified by email when something is added to the forum or message you subscribe to, whereas "becoming a member" means that your name, homepage, and/or email address are known to the HyperNews site and therefore do not need to be entered every time you add a message. Some HyperNews installations may require membership to add messages or perform other actions.

Detailed HyperNews Instructions

The HyperNews instructions have been divided into individual forums, one for each topic. Please post messages to the most appropriate forums.

Alternative Versions of the HyperNews Instructions

Here are some other versions of the HyperNews instructions pages in different styles and arrangements, or in other languages. Also see each of the detailed instructions (above) for references to alternative versions of those instructions. If you make a new version of the instructions for your installation, I would like to add a reference here.
